Last time I visited their web site they never stated that it
was a firewall but that the Proxy Server could give you
"increased confidence in the security of your network".
Such comments alone would suggest to me that they know that
they are selling crapola and don't want to get caught lying
in an obvious way.
Oh by the way, last time I checked you couldn't use more
than two NICs on MS Proxy servers, which makes building
DMZs kind of hard, unless you want to use two proxy servers
and put the endangered servers right in the path of your
internal network's communication with the outside world.
My $.02
Huge disclaimer: I've never performed a thorough security
audit of proxy servers. However, I have had to run to
the rescue several times when customers using proxy servers
have had their networks hacked to pieces. The latter
might just be the results of bad security policies and
incompentent proxy administrators thinking that GUI
point-and-click makes everything easy.
