That would depend on your firewall.
I have used ipchains (linux) and set it up to drop icmp so a normal "ping"
would be dropped. The thing to think about is that this will only stop
people who ping before they portscan (nmap's default behavior comes to
mind), and it does not make your host truly invisible. For example it would
not prevent or hide tcp pinging, or portscanning for that matter.
