You are right. Since my post, I have received several posts from better informed
people (than me) who told me that MS ISA Server is in fact MS Proxy 3.0 (code
name COMET).

Concerning NAT, if I remember, it is already possible to do NAT with Proxy 2.0
on Win 2000 ONLY (by coupling Proxy 2.0 with RRAS features)

For the winsock, I don't know. They write "Transparency for all clients :
Compatibility with clients and application servers on all platforms, with no
client software required." But I don't know if this declaration is for all
features or only a subset.

Nevertheless, it is worth mentionning that it is still possible to use MS Proxy
2.0 with Windows 2000 : http://www.microsoft.com/proxy/Support/win2kwizard.asp?

I have not yet downloaded/tested this product so I cannot comment on it. This
feature list is from MS web site :
    - tightly integrated with Windows 2000 security, directory, virtual private
networking (VPN), and bandwidth control with Quality of Service (QoS)
    - multi-level (i.e. packet, circuit, and application-level traffic
screening) enterprise firewall featuring dynamic packet filtering, SecureNAT for
transparency, "smart" data-aware application filters (i.e. smart application
filters recognize content and apply policy as the content traverses the
network), system hardening, and built-in intrusion detection

for "detailed" info :
http://www.microsoft.com/isaserver/prodinfo/ftr_bnft.asp#005

Does anyone on the list has already tried this FW? Any comment?

Cheers,

                                            Sacha
