I could be wrong but I think socks is doing it... I run socks on one of my
servers and I found it to be doing the same thing as you are talking about
I changed the Socks Conf file and everything is better...

<snip from man socks5>
       SOCKS5_TIMEOUT minutes
              minutes specifies the maximum number of minutes the
              connection remains idle. After minutes number of
              minutes, socks5 disconnects. When you omit
              SOCKS5_TIMEOUT, socks5 disconnects after the con-
              nection is idle for 15 minutes.

  Hallo all,

  1) Is it normal on IBM FW 3.2, when the telnet session over Firwall (
socks
  connection ) breaks down after 15 minutes, when the session is
inactivate?

  2) Exists an option for changing this default timeout for the telnet
  session?

  Best regards Uwe

To unsubscribe from Firewalls-Digest, send the following command
in the body of a message to "[EMAIL PROTECTED]":

unsubscribe firewalls-digest

If you want to subscribe or unsubscribe an address other than the
account the mail is coming from, such as a local redistribution list,
then append that address to the command; for example, to subscribe
"local-firewalls":

subscribe firewalls-digest [EMAIL PROTECTED]

A non-digest (direct mail) version of this list is also available; to
subscribe to that instead, replace all instances of "firewalls-digest"
in the commands above with "firewalls".

Compressed back issues are available for anonymous FTP from
Lists.GNAC.NET, in pub/firewalls/digest/vNN.nMMM.Z (where "NN"
is the volume number, and "MMM" is the issue number).
