The problem is not always the product itself. There are updates, service,
support and alike. This of great importance when the threats change from
day to day. I would prefer a commercial product from a free one when we are
talking about fees under 100 dollars.
What strikes me as odd is that nobody talked about Norton Personal Firewall
2000 (or Norton Internet Security 2000). They are extremly strong
competitors to Zone Alarm and BlackICE Defender. As Personal Firewall works
on Win95, 98, NT and 2000 it�s a strong competitor. I have been able to use
for the last 14 days and I�m very impressed. It�s easier to use than
BlackICE, which I used before, and a lot better than Zone Alarm, which I
have been testing for long priod of time.
I give Norton 10 points out 10, BlackICE 8 and Zone Alarm 5.
But never forget that firewalls are just one of several means of
protection. You need antivirus software, an antitrojan program, file
encryption and so on. As if you didn�t know! But before you rate any of the
mentioned personal firewall program you�d better check how they work
together with all your other stuff. What�s best for me is not necessarily
the best for others!!!
Get evalution copies of all of them and see what fits you!
