Ahmed,
#I am in urgent need of the port numbers that are usually open on most
#firewalls so that applications can transmit information to users on those
#ports who are behind firewalls. As far as I know (correct me if I am
wrong),
#but most firewalls (e.g. Microsoft Proxy 2.0) have special ports open for
#some well-known applications such as the RealPlayer and also have a number
#of ports open for all other applications to use.
The easiest way to find out what applications use what ports is to go to
the corporate website for that application and look at the istructions for
allowing that application through a firewall. Seeing as how most
businesses use firewalls and most businesses buy applications then most
software companies selling applications have a FAQ on how to get their app
to work through a firewall. That said here are some ports.
Real Audio - UDP Ports 7070 or 7071, TCP Port 80 (HTTP), or TCP port 7070
(one of these three choices is pretty normal for a firewall)
Microsoft Media Player - TCP Port 80 (HTTP), or TCP Port 1755
Your best bet would be to use HTTP. I will second the opinion that you
should not try to disguise your traffic as something else in order to get
it through a firewall. As a firewall admin that would irritate me. Also,
a real firewall (not Microsoft Proxy server) will have application layer
proxies that will not allow you to send traffic over a port that doesn't
conform to the firewall access control list.

Jeffery Gieser
