4.1? Wow, that really takes me back! You should really try and get the current
version since 4.1 is officially "retired". Anyway, hopefully you have the
manuals for the product on hand. The install guide shows the correct partions
and software packages which should be installed. The main point on partitioning
is to make sure that your /var slice is big since Gauntlet logs to syslog and
you don't want your firewall to crash because of a full partition.
Take a look at the stuff under http://www.tis.com/support/installq.html. If you
fill out the install questionaires beforehand, your install will be much
smoother.
The general order is
1) install a fresh copy of Solaris 2.5.1
2) install the Solaris patch cluster which comes on the Gauntlet CD
3) install Y2K patches (see below)
4) install Gauntlet software
5) install Gauntlet patches (see below)
I'm assuming you are installing on Solaris 2.5.1 since AFAIK no other versions
are supported. Read http://www.tis.com/support/sol-patch.html for patch info and
be sure you apply the OS patches as listed on
http://www.tis.com/support/sol-251-y2k.html for Y2K stuff. Most of the problems
you will encounter are addressed at http://www.tis.com/support/configfaq.html.
Definitely check http://www.tis.com/support/rnotes-41.html and
http://www.tis.com/support/patch41.html for Gauntlet patch info.
