#But go ahead - maybe you'll get VC based on advertising revenue, hoist a
#.com startup and make so much money I'll be crying into my beer by
#Christmas.

#Same theory, no value add. Even if one
#were to get VC funding for this idea, it would be a hard sell to
customers,
#especially after they spent x number of dollars on some high priced
#consultants and retainer fees for those indispensable security staff they
#have on hand

Isn't this basically what those guys as Gartner Group and Giga do? You can
start crying in your beer right now. Myself and the other security guy
here spent months test driving different intrusion detection systems and
choose the ones we felt was right for our company. Our VP wanted Giga's ok
so he sent the Giga rep the two page high level doc we sent up the chain to
the VPs. The Giga rep, knowing nothing about our network, made a decision
based off of that document and charged us a large amount of money. If that
isn't people making money off of recommending popular products then I don't
know what is.
