Not sure if this made it the first time as the e-mail server is misbehaving, so I'm sending it again. Sorry if you get two copies...

For Windows NT4 (can't imagine it would be too different in 2000) use regedit to remove the registry key: \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\fwenc.exe
As with all functions of regedit: BE CAREFUL ... there's no 'undo'
Doing this will prevent the client from being loaded in the system tray on startup. You can launch it manually, but this kind of takes away the point of auto-running it every time you start Windows to auto-encrypt sessions that need to be encrypted.
Caveat: If you're using SecuRemote in testing, then this is the most effective way to keep it out of your hair when you're not using it, but if you're using it in a production environment and don't have control over the firewall or it's encryption policies, you may end up being unable to access certain resources without knowing why and that reason would likely be that you're attempting to access that resource in cleartext when your firewall has been changed to only allow encrypted communications. i.e. SysAdmin expected the client would be running all the time (which means they wouldn't need to announce the change), but since you've disabled that function you'll have a disconnect with certain network resources.
Hope this helps.

Subject: Checkpoint client auto-startup in WinNT/2000
Can someone tell me how I can disable the Checkpoint VPN
client (SecuRemote) from automatically starting up in Windows
NT 4.0 and in Windows 2000 (the beta client)? I would like
to be able to just manually run it when needed.
Thank you!
Carl
