Hi all,
My boss told me that free firewall won`t do
for us and we need a "product from a respectable
vendor". So now I`m in charge of finding such a
product for our around 300 users network.
After a bit of poking I managed to work out a (pretty
raw) list of (not)desired features. If anyone knows
or (better) has personal experience with a firewall
which (possibly) satisfyies the below list I would be
very gratefull for names/pointers.
Requirements:
- UNIX-based or appliance (preferrably *BSD-based)
- supports >= 3 network interfaces
- packet filtering rules can be specified
very precisely (ideally like it can be done
with IP Filter - any significant field in IP/TCP/ICMP
etc. header can be dealt with. Yes, I`m IP Filter lover)
- has NAPT
- not too expensive ( <= $15K)
- VPN (IPSec) upgradable
- can be administered remotely (GUI is not necessary)
- can send alerts over the network to admin or logging
host
- (optional) a set of reverse proxies and a mail gateway

Best regards,
Dima
