Greg,
#I need to know who had overall responsibility for security on US Federal
web
#sites. I assume it would be either the FBI or the Secret Service, but
since
#I'm not American, I don't know.
The FBI and Secret Service are federal law enforcement agencies.
Generally, they investigate computer crime after it has been committed.
The General Accounting Office (GAO, www.gao.gov) is responsible for
auditing federal computer networks and recommending changes. The National
Infrastructure Protetion Council (NIPC, www.nipc.gov) is responsible for
threat assesment, investigation, and response for critical infrastructure
(utility companies ect.). The Defense Information Security Agency (DISA,
www.disa.mil) is responsible for the security of military and DOD networks.
Regards,
Jeffery Gieser
