How many times must a man says google,
before people search on the web?
and how many times must a hack been found
before you know what it is?
....

I don't know what one might thinks of it, but a search on
www.google.com, of the string "port 9704"took some seconds and
then returned a list of URLs, the second of which contains an answer to
the question: http://lists.insecure.org/incidents/2000/Sep/0054.html.
I am including it below for convenience. There might be other ideas
in the other results of google, so you'd better check'em too.

cheers,
mouss

"there is a wu-ftpd exploit that puts a shell on 9704 in inetd.conf. I
suspect someone is scanning for already comprimised machines to piggyback
on. "
