Jerry,

PGP do a good little home firewall that is integrated with their VPN
client.

It even claims to do some intrusion detection

As long as you can deal with doing only PAT and not NAT, but WITH port 
redirection, the linksys is probably the best deal. It's quite fast and 
very convenient; Also, it can be both DHCP client AND server, and has a 
nice web interface. Linksys is also constantly adding new user-requested 
functionality.
