btw.. regarding name
resolution, here are some file locations for possible
troubleshooting:

provides name resolution for NetBIOS names to IP addresses
NETWORKS provides name resolution for
network names to IP network ID's
PROTOCOL provides resolution
from a protocol name to an RFC defined protocol number
SERVICES provides
resolution from a service name to a port number & protocol
name
These should be in
the \etc directories
