Andrew,
I've used the 5, 10 and 100 and think they're really great products. If you
can afford the $ you should get the model 10 as the 5 (per the data sheet)
only supports 10 tunnels or 10 unrestricted client sessions, though the
unrestricted option may give you some flexibility until performance is an
issue.
In your comparisons you may also wish to capture the opportunity cost of
having an extra nt box should you go with the netscreen.
A netscreen var may be able to make inferences on realistic asic throughput
vs your other solution, but 10-15 users is probably a pretty solid number
for the 5. Here is a great benchmark review of higher end VPN firewalls
including the 100a. (in case you missed the big link on their site):

good luck,Byron

Subject: Decision time !
I'm trying to make a decision on which firewall + VPN to employ.
We currently have the Guardian firewall by Netguard. A while ago I was asked
to implement VPN. Our Guardian installers had a number of problems with
their "testing" of the VPN card, so much so that I have begun to look
elsewhere to see if I was implementing the most apt solution.
I would like to try and get some advice on the Pros and cons of the
following
Implementing the VPN card into our NT box which is running Guardian
or
Replacing the Guardian with a device like a NetScreen 5 elite.
The cost of both is the same (I already have the NT box with guardian on so
I am comparing the cost of the VPN card + installation to the cost of the
NetScreen 5 + installation)
We envisage having 15 vpn clients with 6-10 online at the same time.
Our Internet connection is 128k but may rise to 256k / 512k in the next
year.
The annual maintenance on the Guardian is 5 times greater than for the
NetScreen.
If the NetScreen can do what we want with a degree of redundency then why
should we purchase the more expensive option. How can I get an indication of
the throughput of each setup?
Any helpful advice / experiences would be appreciated
TIA
Andy
