Hubert,
#I am looking for firewall solutions to work on the LAN. We want to protect
the inhouse
#departments from each others. Once there was a product called Eagle LAN
from Raptor. I #don't know if this still exists, but this is exactely the
kind of firewall solution I am #looking for.
#Does anybody know, or can anybody recommand a product?
You have a couple of design choices here depending on how much security you
need. If you are comfortable with the Raptor firewall (www.axent.com or
www.symantec.com) you could just implement that. You could also use acls
on your Cisco or Nortel routers. If I was going to use a firewall
internally, instead of router acls, I would stick with the same firewall
that I use for my Internet connection. I am not aware of a stand alone
firewall that currently bills itself for lan use only. There are some
interesting distributed firewall ventures. Secure Computing and 3com
(http://www.securecomputing.com/archive/press/2000/sep28,00.htm) are
working on a NIC that has firewalling and VPN capabilities or you could go
with the firewalling capabilities that come in Black ICE
(www.networkice.com) or the ISS host agent (www.iss.net).

Jeffery Gieser
