It gets worse.  After tangling with firewall administrators too many times,
vendors are designing new protocols to tunnel over HTTP.  See the SOAP
specifications if you want an additional security ulcer.  And CORBA over
HTTP is just around the corner.

How many high-performance HTTP proxies understand every twist and turn in
HTTP, much less newly designed random protocols?
