I don't know that that's true. The applications that a personal firewall 
protects against aren't viruses at all, but trojans, like backorifice 
for example, or a number of the .vbs hacks.

I don't believe anyone was talking about doing that, exactly, except 
perhaps yourself (accidentally.) The idea was that the antiviral 
software handle the actual viruses, and that the "personal firewall" 
should handle network trojans and suchlike.
