Any GAP security Device has the Problem of Content. So there is no much
difference in Storing a IP Pakcet, cutting the Connection to the Sender and
Forwarding it. You still have a whole there. If you only use the GAP
Firewall to Transfer Files (which obviously only works for Batched Stuff) it
might be a reliable File Transfer System without hidden Channels, but still
the Data Itself can be abused.
In Short a Air Gap is only a good argument for a restrictive firewall which
might be a good IDea in some areas, but If you want, for example Allow Email
or Browsing over this solution, you are better off investing into Content
Security Products and Training.
