If you are concerned because of security reasons, you may want to
investigate into picking an "official" IM service for your company, along
with policies and guidelines to their use. I believe there are some IM
clients that are more secure than others, so you may want to check with
vendors to see if they do encryption. I've heard that one company in
particular is going to offer an IM client with SSL encryption. (Sorry, I
can't share who that is, it may be company confidential.)
