Is anyone aware of a suitable forum in which to discuss future
goal state 'models' for new perimeter security architecture?
It is time to take a fresh look, to define a goal state and, to
help enterprises address their legacy security issues with a
radically new perimeter architecture that will afford them
agility, competitivity and, survivability.
There are significant opportunities in the year 2001, with a
major convergence underway: as the intranet and extranet converge,
public and private networks converge and, the concept of inside
and outside start to disappear.
The new distributed "mainframe" model with subsystems.
There is also a convergence of the architecture of the enterprise
with that of the service provider, as enterprises Internet-enable
themselves with enterprise portals and, service providers take on
those enterprise management elements. A plug-and-play community.
What is necessary is the adoption of a distributed, modular and,
flexible "perimeter" architecture that supports an underlying
general-purpose infrastructure, a substrate leveraging directory
and security as a common authentication and authorization model
-- that facilitates rapid deployment, both hosted and outsourced
in support of new and emerging business opportunities, changes,
acquisitions, etc.
Executives are looking for answers, it is time for thought leaders
to take a fresh look. It is time for security to be the "enabler"
and not a reactive "fix".
