Hello,
Back in 1996 (time flies!), I wrote RFC 1919, which was an
attempt at documenting the differences between "classical" and
"transparent" proxies. At the time, transparent proxies were
less common than they are today, and most people in the field
did not understand how they worked, or their potential security
implications.

A warning is in order. Some of the opinions I express in the
document may now be viewed as obsolete, or just dead wrong. You
