I went to the SANS Intrusion Detection class last August in Ottawa. I found it very
good from a framework on someone needing to learn the area with great detail and
feedback (be sure to write papers and take exams). But because it is a very structured
course, it didn't go into detail on particular areas that might be of interest to you
or your company. For example, there was a good section on NetBIOS intrusions and how
to interpret NBT packets, but little on IIS DAO and how it works to understand why
there were the vulnerabilities your were checking for. It is a very practical
introduction and is a real learning experience but you still will need to keep up with
all the BUGTRAQ/firewalls stuff to maintain your knowledge.

Subject: SANS classes...
Hello Gurus of the world,
A quick note to hopefully get some feedback in regards to your recommendations
about the classes given by SANS. I know this institute is great and great
people drive it, but has someone taken their classes? some comments about them?
I am thinking about going to one of their 4-day classes but before I put my
money in, wanted to have some feedback from someone who has been there and done
that...
Thanks!
Don Juan
