domain name inside and outside

Hi there
This may be a stupid question,,, but you never know until you ask.....

Is it possible to have your internal firewall network as
theinternalname.domain
and have the external domain the real name as in rogerscable.net?

Does this cause any problems I know you have to masquerade the mail
addresses
is there anything else???

Or is this a bad idea from the start !!!!!!
