I priced managed firewall services just to see where the benefit was
and for the price of a couple of months of this service you could buy a
Firewall-1 or a PIX. Better yet you could buy a real application layer
proxy firewall. The benefit is they do all of the administration. The
negatives are that the service is usually overpriced, you are at their
mercy for changes to the firewall, and a lot of times the contract you sign
states that you can only have X amount of proxys and ACLs. All in all if
you can do it go with your own firewall.
