Title: RE: Firewall port Technology
By all means do your firewall testing but in the environment you are suggesting don't forget the application server testing, the database testing, the switch and other LAN components testing, WAN and router testing, etc. etc.  Also consider, although you probably have already, how you might isolate a suspect performance problem when a real-time problem comes up.  After all, you want to be able to isolate the firewall as well as blame it.  Actually there will probably be plenty others ready to do the latter for you. :)

Subject: Performance testing

Hi all,

I have an appliance firewall which I would like to do some load testing against. I'm planning to host web sites and I need to know of the FW is going to handle all the connections. I have a rough idea of what amount of hits I expect per domain per month.

a)    What is a good way to approach this type of project
b)    Is there software etc to do this or some scripts that I can run on a unix box

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Mark
