We have Gauntlet v5.5 at three sites. With ACL's on your router and a DMZ,
this flexible and pretty easy to use product can fit many security needs.

We have used Gauntlet since v3.1 when Trusted Information Systems was still
maintaining it. Some of the core engineers have stuck around. It is my
opinion that when a large software co like NAI assimilates products, they
degrade over time--at least development slows down. Support has been decent
since NAI aquired the product, but in a few cases, I have been on my own...
esp when integrating DNS and Mail. NAI has also dropped WinNT support, so
if you are command line shy, don't bother with Gauntlet.

Gauntlet is a true application proxy type firewall, and those on this list
would argue there are products that would make users and ultimately
managment more happy. You need to throw a pretty expensive SPARC together
to get 3Mbit of throughput. Stateful inspection type of firewalls are
becomming more recommended because they are faster and easier to maintain.

Hope this answers your question,
