Log ParsingYou could cat xxx | grep yyy > newlog.txt That would do it without stopping syslog. Mind you, your log could get out of hand because those entries are NOT removed.

As it stands the script stops syslog moves the file xxxx to a location and apends the date to the file. It then touches xxxx and starts syslog. Is that an acceptable way to do it ? Of course I loose logging info for the time that it syslog is not running.
