there are various mbox formatted test suites out there, including t5he one
from u washington for the imap test kit. using that and formail (part of
the procmail package) to resend the messages, you can stress an SMTP
server or virus scanners, for example.

alternatively, take a large set of variable sized files (say the Linux
source tree) and mail them to an account to create an mbox file that's
huge. find . -type f -name *.c | xargs mail user@host -s "foo bar" kinds
of tricks.
