I don't believe that is a setting on the server. The client takes care of that. A POP3 client will do a LIST and then attempt to RETRieve what is listed. And then DELEtes each message individually.
A while back, when doing Internet support for an ISP, we used to come across similar problems. Depending on your client, it may actually be the interval you have it set to check at. If you have ten large messages and it is going to take 15 minutes to download them, then an interval of 10 minutes will cause these problems. Before the retrieval is complete, it attempts to start at the beginning again. The results may vary from server to server, but what happens a lot is that the first connection is cancelled and an error occurs. Try manually logging into the server with a telnet client. Then check out the size of the messages. You can do so like this: ------------------------ TELNET MAIL.SERVER.COM 110 +Pop Server ready. USER UserName +OK PASS PassWord +OK User successfully logged on. LIST 1 28376 2 1119 3 4580 4 4323 5 2422 6 1566 7 2029 8 3420 9 23385 QUIT ---------------------------- The First Number Is The Message Order. The Second Number Is The Size Of The Message In Bytes. If You Have Many That Are Huge, Then It May Be Taking Too Much Time To Download, Depending On Your Connection Speed. Am using sendmail 8.11.2/8.11.6. Everything works well as far as smtp is concerned, the main problem is pop3, in that most of the users have constant disconnections while retrieving mail. The problem is the mail is deleted from the server after the last mail is received. so if client has 10 msgs downloads 5 and the connection breaks the next time he accesses the mail the process is repeated recieved the 5 messages again. Is there away to set the pop3 server to delete each mail once it is downloaded by the client. regards pat _______________________________________________ Firewalls mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.gnac.net/mailman/listinfo/firewalls _______________________________________________ Firewalls mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.gnac.net/mailman/listinfo/firewalls
