Many people run multiple instances of web servers or software that provides a web interface on the same machine. They all can not be bound to the same port. Some folks use ports other than port 80 for security reasons. I don't necessarily agree with that idea. HP, IBM, MS, and other big boys run many servers on non-standard ports. I assume that you allow port 443 traffic to facilitate SSL. That should be a given so pardon me for even mentioning it.
