I was trying to get open, etc. to work and was digging into why
mimedb couldn't seem to find actions associated with mimetypes
so I did an:

$ strace mimedb -a file.jpg

I had previously set:

image/jpeg=geeqie.desktop

in my defaults.list. The output of strace that was troubling was:

stat("/usr/local/shareapplications/geeqie.desktop", 0x7fff7903cfb0) = -1 ENOENT
(No such file or directory)
stat("/usr/shareapplications/geeqie.desktop", 0x7fff7903cfb0) = -1 ENOENT (No
such file or directory)
stat("/usr/share/gdmapplications/geeqie.desktop", 0x7fff7903cfb0) = -1 ENOENT
(No such file or directory)

The file:

/usr/share/applications/geeqie.desktop

exists on my system but mimedb is not finding it due to a missing slash.

Maybe this can be fixed in a configuration file but I looked in
/etc/fish/config.fish and  ~/.config/fish/fishd.$HOST and didn't
see any likely looking settings.

The build configuration options Gentoo uses are:

    docdir="${EPREFIX}"/usr/share/doc/${PF} \
    --without-xsel \
    --bindir="${EPREFIX}"/bin

which don't seem to be the source of the problem either.

Peace, James
