Lots of farrier stories lately so I will tell mine. When I brought my big
new girl home last year, she had never been shod. On the New England
rocks I had to have at least fronts put on her when it was riding season.
When the farrier first saw her he was leery because he "had sworn off
drafts." Mostly, I guess, because they tend to lean on the farrier. So
the mare and I worked on that and she has been pretty good. She also had
not been handled much in the previous 2 years and was pretty bargy and
would walk over you if you were in the way. We worked on that too. I was
always home to hold her, though, when he came.
Lately I have had surgery and couldn't get out to the barn safely
to hold, so he had to do them himself. She was perfect, he said, but her
belly (non-pregnant) is getting so big he could hardly fit under her!
Something else to work on....
