It happens every August - I could make book on it. Tank did it in Nebraska and does it here in southern New Mexico at exactly the same time. I shall soon start seeing the beginning of winter hair. Interestingly, Nigel, the Fjord/Arab cross, is not shedding any summer hair yet and, of course, he does not get as yak-like as the two purebreds.
