Hi List!
I've only owned a Fjord for 6 years so my opinion in this matter is not
learned nor is it based on many years of experience and study. My gelding,
Braveheart, would probably fall toward the sporty end of the Fjord spectrum. I
picked him out of a group of 3 yearling geldings because I fell in love at
first sight, not because of my amazing equine judgment. He just grew into who
he
is and I certainly can't complain about how it all turned out. I don't find
his temperament to be uncertain...I have more cranky days than he's ever
dreamed
of. Still, I have always been seriously attracted to the Fjords who lean
toward the drafty side. I fell in love with Jock, the horse next door to
Clementine at Blue Earth. I give Gyri Ethingham a standing ovation every time
she
walks by. And who couldn't love Oz, the wonder horse? I would be very sorry
if
either end of the Fjord continuum was sacrificed for the other. I think
we've got great individuals all along that line and, luckily, evaluators who
appreciate quality in every type. So let's have it all and as many evaluations
every year as the traffic will bear. And bring your out your geldings..I'm
sure
stallion owners are interested in the quality of their sons as well as their
daughters. I found the evaluation I attended very helpful...the evaluator
talked about each horse and their attributes. It was interesting and I learned
a
lot.

Kay Van Natta
and Braveheart - sporty.
and Clementine - not so much.
