Hi everyone,
I just checked the results from the stallion show at Nordfjordeid and wanted
to share this with the group. I was thrilled to see that Felix's son
Ljosprins has been awarded his 1.pr AND was ranked first in quality of the 8
year old stallions!
Felix (Haugjo 1.pr X Ella 2.pr by Eldar 2.pr) was born in Norway and
imported to Canada by Pat Wolfe as a four year old. At his three year old
Norwegian evaluation Felix received his breeding license, and was ranked
second in the quality group, right behind his half-brother Heia Gutt.
That was the year (1996) that they held an International Judges Conference
in Norway, and 9 of the 11 International Judges ranked Felix first in the
quality group, and the other two judges ranked him second. Since the
decision of the Norwegian judges is the official one, the ranking of the
three year old stallion quality group that year was as follows: 1 Heia Gutt,
2 Felix, 3 Hildmann, 4 Fløtren, 5 Knerten, 6 Haukland.
Felix was used for breeding two years in Norway before coming to Canada, and
in that time he sired 48 registered offspring. 25 were colts, 23 fillies.
All were brown dun, except for one red dun and one white dun, who was out of
the white dun mare Aarnesblakka.
Six of Felix's sons, at their three year old Norwegian evaluations received
breeding premiums. At the time Tor Nestaas said 'this is one for the record
books' because it was so amazing that one out of four of Felix's sons
received a breeding licence in a system where, on average, only one out of
thirty or so colts makes it that far.
By the time they were five years old, three of Felix's sons had their
premiums upgraded, two to 2.pr (highest possible at that age) and one to
3.pr - and three became geldings. This gives Felix three mature sons with
active breeding licences! They are: Kviablakken - 2.pr, Ljosprins - 2.pr,
and Halse Vildar - 3.pr
And now we have the news that Ljosprins has been upgraded to 1.pr! I am so
happy for his owners and handlers who have done such a good job presenting
him, and for us, the owners of his sire Felix. I saw Ljosprins when he was
four years old and on display in Førde by the Breeders Association who owned
him. I found him to be a magnificent animal of excellent type and movement.
Ljosprins was also the sire of last years top placed three old stallion,
Knapstadprinsen.
The fact that Felix's three licensed stallion sons and at least one licenced
stallion grandson were the result of Felix standing only two seasons with 48
offspring (25 colts) should be very interesting to all the breeders among us.
Felix's daughters have also faired well in the Norwegian Evaluations. His
highly rated daughers include Mette Fra Skarhaug - 2.pr, Halse Lenda - 3.pr,
the red dun mare Herjublakka - 3.pr, and Krovels Lilja - 3.pr.
The Felix Group is made up of four breeders located here in Ontario: Lori
Albrough, Cheryl Beillard, Marg Kerr and Laura Skjenna. All of the group
members presently have Felix offspring available for sale, including foals,
yearlings, two year olds, a four year old ride/drive gelding, and a five
year old mare with an excellent dressage training foundation.
If you are looking for proven bloodlines, take a look at FELIX's offspring.
Contact any of the group members for more information on our offerings.
