I'm new to this list...my name is Merri and we recently bought two fjords this past summer. One of our girls had a floppy mane and had her tail chewed short by our silly goat...we roached her mane and kept it short but still had some problems with it flopping...I just figured I would keep it real short. Anyway, I used to feed my quarter horse Natural Glo and it did wonders for her coat and had a calming effect...so I thought this winter I would put the fjords on it and the Grow Strong mineral...what has happened is that the girls are very hyper but Kari's mane is standing tall and her tail is growing like crazy! I figure I am going to try just giving them the Natural Glo and see if they calm down any? When we bought them, they were real quiet but now they seem super-charged, so I think together, the mineral is too much. I did notice that they gained weight, more then I wanted. Anyway, just thought I would let you know...good luck.

>Frodo has always had a mane that sort of flopped for most of it's length. I roached it, kept it trimmed and it still flopped. Well this winter he started dropping weight so I started him on some Natural Glo rice bran and low and behold his mane popped straight up within two weeks of starting him on it. His coat just glistens to. I've used this on other horses (WB and Appaloosa) in the past with good luck but didn't think about it on Frodo because of the high fat content until now that he needed it because of weight. Does anybody else feed a rice bran product or equivalent to their fjords? Now I'm thinking about keeping him on the rice bran year round if I can keep him from porking out too much in the summer on the grass. I've tried mineral supplementing Frodo in the past (Select II) and he reacted very badly to it (became hyper). With the rice bran he is just his normal, calm self and looks and seems to feel great.
