Ive been lurking for awhile on the Digest, trying to learn all that I can. I finally got my first horse in July, at age 39, and hes a Fjord gelding. Harry is 15.2 hands, 8 years old, and a very sweet guy. However, hes also pretty social and he really needs a pasture mate. Im now officially in love with the breed and dont want to get another horse unless its a Fjord. Which brings me to the reason I have come out of hiding: Im wondering if any of you can help me find the right buddy for Harry. Im not interested in doing anything competitive with my horses just trail riding and maybe learning to drive later on down the road so neither impeccable bloodlines nor strict breed standards are necessary. My husband is not a horse person, but he wants to learn to ride with me, so the Fjord we buy must be husband-proof and gentle with kids. I need a hardy easy keeper, as Harry lives on orchard grass and vitamin supplements, in a big gravel paddock with a spiffy new 12x24x12 ! shelter in the winter, and a rotating pasture with a shelter for summer. We have three-line 1-1/2 electric tape fencing. I do have a little two-stall barn, but Harry doesnt love being confined, so hes always outside. We live on 10 acres, so theres plenty of room for two horses. Im hoping that someone has an older, healthy and sound Fjord that needs a good, loving home. Id like to find another Fjord gelding that is well-trained, bigger than standard, has a patient, willing personality, and has no bad habits like biting, kicking, or bolting. I know this is a tall order for most breeds, but not the Fjord. Please let me know if you or someone you know might have the right guy for us. Thanks so much for sharing your time and knowledge!
