Hi Les / Margaret and others interested,
I'm assuming that this note was to me since my name was on it. I
actually do listen to what many of you say. I usually read the list
daily, have taken phone calls and talk to members personally. We all
must remember though that this list isn't related to the NFHR in any way
and the BOD doesn't always feel compelled to participate in the
discussions. If there is participation it is the Director's own views
and not the Board.
So far it's about 50/50 with regards to changing the logo vs. keeping it
the same. I have received private emails from NFHR members that state
their views and don't necessarily want to join in on the public list.
The NFHR BOD is comprised of fellow Fjord owners who have stepped up to
the plate and have put aside a certain amount of their time to help
direct the Registry. We make choices almost everyday regarding
operations and have very clearly stated that there is room for the
membership's input. One of the tasks on the Board is to promote the
Fjord. Promotion is aimed at new potential owners as well as existing
owners. I personally feel that the present logo will be seen by people
not familiar with the breed as stating the Fjord is a draft breed. I
know that they are so much more but the logo focuses on one particular
use. I think we need to change that. This is just part of our work in
advertising and promoting the breed. This is work that you have
requested previously on this list. The logo is just part of a
professional advertising / promotion campaign.
I have also read here that it's hard to decide who to vote for based on
a bio that's a paragraph long. I'm not sure that it was noticed but
there wasn't even an election last year because there was only three
people who ran (for three positions open on the Board). It would be
nice to have an election. Hopefully this year we will. If you think we
operate secretly with no regard to what our members think please run for
the Board or join a committee. You will then learn how we operate.
It's easy to sit back and complain. It's hard to go forward and make a
positive contribution. I have one more year left to my term and I'd
like to get things done while I'm part of the BOD, not feel compelled to
defend the process.
The last two years we had our annual meeting in the center of the
country near where the most Fjords / owners are located. 4 people
showed up... total. By having it in Florida this year we are trying two
different things. First, if you were to fly to the annual meeting would
you rather be in Cincinnati or Florida in January. Secondly, if you
were to join the BOD would you rather meet in Cincinnati or Florida in
January? The costs are the same in regards to the BOD Face to Face
meeting. I've tried to get the January meeting in beautiful Duluth, MN
so I don't have to travel far but no one has jumped at the idea :)

Just like our Government it does not consider what a lot of us out here.
Some thing as important as the log I think that a vote should be taken of
everyone, not just the elected officers. I also don't think just the people
who have a computer or go to a show should make the decision. A lot of us
feel that we really don't have any say so why try. The powers to be will
make the decision that they want anyway. It's like California needs money
and so people who have had water rights forever are now going to be limited
and charged for water that is on their property.
