I can testify that coyotes do not prefer dead, but do prefer small and helpless. I lost 2 drakes and a 14 year old dog to coyotes this spring. It is hard for me to imagine that a coyote would try and attack a horse unless it was sooo hungry that it had taken leave of its senses. Coyotes are opportunists and self-preservationists by nature.
