This is the first I've heard of a problem, so I'm anxious to hear more details. But I'm curious about one thing. You stated "sheared off right at the body of the horse trailer". I don't think that is what you meant to say. Because if that were the case, you would have lost a wheel on each side of the trailer. A Torflex axel consists of a square tube with mounting brackets (which gets bolted to the trailer body), a swing arm at each end of the square tube and a stub shaft on the end of the swing arm which holds the wheel. Now my question is, #1. Did the mounting bracket separate from the trailer body? #2. Did the axel tube separate from the mounting bracket? #3. Did the swing arm separate from the axel tube? #4. Did the stub shaft separate from the swing arm?
On the serial plate of the trailer it should state what the GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating) is. The axels should also have a tag stating their weight rating. The combined axel ratings must be equal to, or greater than the GVWR. ie. A trailer with a GVWR of 7000# should have should have two 3500#, or heavier, axels. Also, you might want to check how much your trailer actually weighs when it's loaded. You might be surprised how close it is to being overweight. If you are running overweight, the axel will be the first to suffer. Trailer manufacturers usually push everything to the limit to save on costs.
