This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi Everyone-
Thought I'd keep you posted of my adventure in Oregon. The day started off with a laugh. All ready to go, I offered Rafael water before putting him in the trailer. He grabbed the bucket and dumped it on me :-) It was a remarkably smooth drive out of the Bay Area, up I-5, then 97 all the way to Redmond. I stopped for gas just across the border and I swear I was waited on by Charles Bronson! Like Elvis, he isn't really dead, he works at a gas station in Oregon ;-) Mr. Bronson didn't speak English so didn't understand when I asked where restaurants were. I thought for a minute of a word that anyone would understand, then said, "McDonalds?" "Oh!" he replied, smiling and pointing down the road, "McDonalds!" Roadside funnies included a life-size statue of a rhinoceros and a large horse painted on a wood sign with a bubble coming out of his mouth saying, "Best durn food on Hwy 97." The rest is all a blur, but somehow after 550 miles I reached Prineville, OR and found the fair grounds just before dark. Luckily, Maggie McLaughlan was there unloading obstacles for the trail and driving classes. She helped me get Rafael settled, then I drove off in my search for a motel. According to my AAA book, the lowest price was $70 for a room. Yikes! I was going to look around downtown and see what I could find. Just as I was about to turn left on 126, I saw a sign saying, "$28 a night" and made an abrupt right turn! So here I am at the Ochoco Inn for $28. Tomorrow I will spend the day bathing and grooming Rafael, cleaning and sorting tack. I am really looking forward to this fun show. / )_~ /L/L Brigid Wasson SF Bay Area, CA www.Brigid.Clickryder.com
