Our weather here in Minnesota is definitely getting wintery, so those of you

work is going so we can live vicariously!

Hi Tish,

We haven't had too much wintery stuff yet (touch wood!), mostly rain and mud which is discouraging in its own way. I do have a thrill I can share with you, though, to enliven your vicarious life!

Recently we started our young mare Peregrine, who is now 3 and a half, under saddle. She's been going for about two months, and as she is still young I just do about 15 to 20 minutes four days a week. She needs to build up condition and like all young horses, she tires easily. If I don't ask for the canter early in the ride, I know she may be too pooped to give it to me. She has lots of 'go-juice' but just gets tired so I'm careful not to go for too long just yet.

Anyhow, I can't believe how lucky I am to have such a wonderful horse to ride!!!! The gaits on this young mare are just SO nice. When my coach saw her she said 'that horse has remarkable freedom in her shoulders' (that means remarkable for any breed, not just Fjords) and she is so right, the things Peregrine can do with her body and the freedom in her front end just amaze me. The hind end is equally wonderful with an active hind leg that just won't quit. Her hind polos never even get dirty because of the way she brings her hind legs up off the ground and under her body. The feeling I get from her in the trot is something that you can work for years to get on another horse. What a thrill!! Lucky me!! Just had to share...

Peregrine is our first Felix offspring who is old enough to start riding. She is out of Rjelgrimm, our Myrstein daughter, who is half-sister to Anne Sullivan's mare Reina who she talked about recently on the list, these two mares were imported from Holland in the same group by Carol R.
