Hello Everybody from Carol Rivoire at Beaver Dam Farm in Nova Scotia -
Two of the nicest and most 'congenial' Fjordhorses will soon be on their way
to Hollywood. --- Well, not exactly 'in' Hollywood, but very close by.
Vicky and Jolly Jumper were purchased this summer by the Donald Petrie
family. Donald Petrie is the famous movie director - His most recent
popular films being "Miss Congeniality" and "How to Lose a Guy in Ten
Days". And all of us were thrilled when Donald sent us autographed copies
of the two movie videos. -- Donald told me that he chose our farm on the
basis of our website. He said he could tell we were serious, experienced,
and had a great love for our horses. --
Both Vicky and Jolly Jumper were imported from Germany last year, and are
delightful horses. Vicky is a 3-yr-old mare, and Jolly a 5 yr old gelding.
Both were in training at BDF this summer. Vicky just getting started, of
course, with flat work and trails, but Jolly being two years older
participated in almost everything we do here. He was in our BDF 8 Horse
Precision Drill Team.
The Petrie family considered a very long time before making the final
decision to purchase these horses. They wanted to be absolutely sure they
were making a responsible decision. We appreciate that and feel good about
sending our good horses so f ar away ---- You can't get much further than
Nova Scotia to California.

OTHER NEWS -
* We've got our new Sales Page up and running. You might like to take a
look. There are some very nice horses for sale including three at bargain
basement prices. Low as the prices are on these horses, the quality is
high. Three young mares - Two 5 yr. olds, and a 7 yr. old - daughters of
Modellen, Hostar, & Solar have been here all summer and have had some great
training and mileage. -- Take a look! -- Also, take a good look at BDF
Titan and see how he's grown. --- And, if you're interested in very high
quality, athletic & eye-catching horses, you'll want to see King & Jazzy,
two other German-bred horses.. And then there's the 'Ultimate Fjord' -
the incredible mare, Tvende. Don't miss seeing her. --- As you'll see on
the Sales Page, at Beaver Dam Farm, our horses work! No pasture ornaments
here.

* NOVA SCOTIA BEGINNER DRIVING (& RIDING) VACATION
FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY - Children Welcome
Our Nova Scotia Beginner Driving & Riding Vacations get more popular every
year, and we refine them each year, thus they get even better. This year,
we'd hardly closed the books on the 2003 season, when people began calling
to book for 2004, and to rent the Charming Cottage. I had to scramble to
set up our Reservation Book for the coming season. -- Due to demand, we
are expanding the season somewhat -- Starting a little earlier in June and
going into the first week of September. Also, we'll be accepting a maximum
of ten guests per session, rather than 9 which has been our maximum the last
few years. -- We can do this because we're getting more and more riders
each year, and more families with children.
HURRICANE JUAN -
It missed us by 30 miles. Juan hit Halifax hard!!! The worst storm in 40
years, which is saying a lot for a Maritime city on the North Atlantic
coast. Truly, nobody was really prepared. They thought they were just
because they'd weathered so many other big storms, but Juan was way
different. -- The Public Gardens in Halifax was really devestated -- All
those beautiful old trees, many planted by Kings and Queens. -- The roof
of the Victoria General Hospital was blown off and several floors flooded.
Trees were down everywhere causing incredible damage. Two people, including
an ambulance driver, were killed by falling trees.
After Halifax, Juan headed straight north to New Glasgow and Pictou, and
then on to Prince Edward Island. Both those towns, and the island suffered
bad damage. There were a lot of barns with roofs torn off, and some of them
just flattened.
Sunday afternoon Arthur and I were preparing for the worst, but thank
heavens we didn't get it because I think we made a dangerous mistake. We
put all the horses in the barn (very old barn) thinking they'd be
afer. --- It's strange how you just can't appreciate the forces of nature
until they happen --- Thinking about it now, that was probably the worst
thing we could have done -- had the hurricane come east a little and hit us
full force. Thank God it didn't. We had some very big winds and some trees
down, but nothing like they had from Halifax to PEI.
Well, that's the news from BDF in Nova Scotia -
Kind Regards, Carol Rivoire
