Why not compete barefoot. If you have gone barefooted for a fair period
the hoof should be strong and healthy, so, unless the course is very
rocky or on long stretches of pavement, barefoot should be good.

Subject: 'proper' footwear for competitions

This message is from: bolinsj <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

I do not do much competing (only 'fun' shows these days), but was
wondering when I compete in our 'fun' CDE this fall whether Old Mac
boots would be allowed for all 3 phases? I don't like to shoe my pony
to do one or two events a year and I love the Old Macs. The show is not

ADS, but will be using ADS rules just so everyone knows the rules. All
I can find in my ADS book is that only 'normal regulation' shoeing is
permitted and anything else will cause elimination. We are still doing
training level.
I was at the Laurels yesterday weighing carriages after the Advanced and

saw no horses or ponies wearing anything other than traditional shoes.
No sense me even going to the show if I'll be eliminated out-of-hand for

the Old Macs. I am not going to shoe the horse just for this one event.

thanks for any help,
Martie in MD - and Kilar the barefooted
