This message is from: GAIL RUSSELL <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hey CAtherine/all,
Is frozen semen that big a boon? The reading I've done on the Net and stories from Fjord people essentially describe it as a sort of cruel joke - that the ugly truth is that (and I exaggerate here) no mare has ever conceived by frozen semen - but no one is really talking about it. I know it is not that bad - but how good is it? Catherine and I got to talking about frozen semen and collection methods at Libby - seems to me Jean Ernest dragged me away by the scruff of the neck....saying we had to get to the next stop before midnight - but Catherine was just getting to the good part.... So.. how viable is it? How to make it more viable? I know the Voorhoeve's (sp) shipped quite a bit of frozen semen from Holland - with little or no success. I'd love to freeze a bunch of Romulus half/babies and not have to worry about dealing with mares or emergency collections. So... what's the real scoop? Gail Funny AQHA finally approved frozen semen... The >world just got smaller. No more rushing to the international flights with >cooled semen and hoping for no delays to Germany for the sperm to make it >cooled for a mare. With frozen, transportation is less a problem and storage >for when your mare is in season makes it better. > >Anyone that deals in cattle will tell you how frozen semen will make life >easier for the breeder. I think that the BOD is doing wonders for addressing >this situation and opening doors for better breeding.
