Hi List ! So many interesting threads now.....thought I would give my 2 cents on a few of them. Tack, is hard to fit most Fjords. Basically, we have had more luck in ordering a standard " Horse Sz. harness from Smuckers. We sent detailed measurments for our team harness, and they still send standard horse sz. with a note....saying that is was a perfect sizable fit, and it was ! Less luck with riding tack. Guess if you picture a horse sz head, with a draft neck, built into a cobb body, but with a wide fit, and pony sz legs....thats about it ! Find that Cobb anything dont fit mine too well, except for splint boots, and YES we use them, Kaiser is now just recovering from a nasty splint, gotten while walking up to show in our local arena....must have banged his leg on the way. Also wear boots for the heavy stuff, and distance training, as they tend to over reach when moving out. We use a synthetic Western saddle, wide tree, and a Dressage saddle, wide tree also. They both have no special problems fitting. We have our " herd " barefoot, except the ones who we are working.{ No shoes} has never worked for the Fjords. Even with regular farrier work, and Biotin added to their feed, they soon go " off " with real riding or driving on streets or hills. We use regular shoes here, except when during the show season, my shoer puts on lightweight " driving shoes " with a clip, for xtra strengh. We do alot of miles though, but just cant see hitting rocks, and ?? without shoes....wouldnt go barefoot myself. No grain here, except pregnant mares, and lactating. Also offer it in the first year or so with my babies, but find that the high protien content of our Alfalfa is sometimes too much on its own, so try and be careful they dont grow too fast and straight. We have Pioneer Forecart, and it has brakes. It has become our training cart, and has shafts for a single and pole for a pair. As much as I hate to sit on those tractor seats, <VBG> I have to say it has been a very versital vehicle for us. Hope to find a flatbed trailer to haul behind it, so can do the parade float thing, with the pair. We had some friends bring it back from OHIO for us....very expensive in Calif. When we have seen it at the Turlock Draft Horse sale and auction, it sold for more than you could order it for, shipped. Still want a bench seat for it, do you hear me BK FJORDS??? KARI ANN, you are most welcome to come ride ours...here in Norco, in Western Riverside, and also will speak for Margaret Straken, who is in Nuevo, we both show off our Fjords to people with rides and drives. Call anytime, and we will set up a time. ****************************************************************************** ******************** I want to invite everyone to join PAV Aussie and I, to FJORD CHAT, at PetsandVets, 9:00 Eastern time, every Sun. night in horse room # 1.
