This message is from: Bonnie Liermann <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Cindy; Just wanted to put my two cents worth in. In my opinion it is essential that ALL horses get vitamins and minerals all the time. It does not matter what they are being fed. Alot of fjords don't need grain and mine just gets a handfull. He gets it so that he eats all of his vit and mineral supplement. No matter where you live and what you feed, all horses need these and will not get all they need from the hay or pasture. My husband is a dairy nutritionist and he is always surprised when horse people don't feed a good mineral. It will make a big difference in the condition of their hooves, among other things. You mentioned a hoof supplement and they are helpful but will not provide all the minerals needed. I recently started using biotin and you can see on the hoof how much thicker the new hoof growth is. My farrier was amazed at the difference. I would reccomend a good mineral and also biotin. I went to the local feed mill and asked for a bag of biotin. A large bag (30 lbs)? cost 21.00. I feed 10 mg on top of his grain. I added alittle water to make it stick because some of my horses don't eat it if it is just dry. I feed a pelleted mineral because when it is pelleted they eat it all and when it is a dry powder they sometimes lose some of it if they dump their bucket. Sorry this is so long, or if people are offended by what I said, but I just don't believe you can have optimal health without a mineral.
