Dear List From Brian Jensen;
I believe this amendment for the CFHA is long
overdo. My perspective about the Fjord is one of Stewardship on behalf of
this breed. Over the years the Fjord has given more than it has taken. It is
certainly a gift from mother nature and I feel a responsibility to honour
that gift.
On the International scene I believe all main Fjord
producing countries do not allow cross-breeding in their constitutions. As
well almost all main Fjord producing countries are now members of FHI
originating from the mother country Norway. I call this amendment
housekeeping as Canada moves forward to take it's place as a responsible
member country. There are some good people now working on the CFHA BOD and I
am very hopeful about the future, especially for Canada and the US. All
countries have housekeeping to do at times. Recently the NFHR addressed the
issue of white markings which Canada has had in place for a long time.
For several years my hope has been for two strong, healthy, and
respectful Fjord Associations in North America; the US and Canada sharing
reciprocity of Registrations, reciprocity of Evaluations, and reciprocity of
Evaluators and Judges. Of course sometimes the human element gets in the way
but there is no lack of passion about these subjects. The NFHR is about to
publish the Record Book of their first six American Evaluations. It is a
great document of education and summaries of Fjords Evaluated. About 30
Canadian born and bred Fjords are in the book with good results. The US is
our biggest customer of Fjords and we need to honour ourselves as breeders
and owners with the highest standards possible.
The CFHA needs to move forward and take its rightful place with
other major Fjord producing countries of the world. Ursula and I have
offered to help wherever possible through education and clinics for CFHA.The
information we hear shows the main gap to be one of proper education for
interested owners and breeders . If, as Canadian members you are interested
contact your nearest CFHA BOD member.
The subject of cross-breeding has been discussed at length in this forum and
the Archives are available to those wishing to access them.
Sincerely Brian Jensen
