Good Morning from Carol Rivoire at Beaver Dam Farm in Nova Scotia -

TEETH & TESTICLES ----

* It's acknowledged that horses used for breeding must have proper teeth
and testicles. Most people agree to this.

* It's acknowledged these fauls are HEREDITARY.

* It's acknowledged it is the responsibility of a breed registry to
attempt to eliminate or curtail inherited faults.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Most people have agreed that the issue of proper teeth and testitcles IS
IMPORTANT!
Unfortunately, while agreeing, many people have all sorts of reasons why
verification won't/can't work.
               WHERE ARE THE "CAN DO" PEOPLE?
The NFHR already requires reports on Teeth & Testicles.  Unfortunately, as
I found, only on stallions listed in the Stallion Issue of the Herald, and
for Evaluations.
They're on the right track, but to do what's best for the breed, they need
to expand this policy to all NFHR registered stallions.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

* I suggested that foals by stallions without this report on file, couldn't
be registered.

* Someone said that would be unfair to the owner of the foal.

* OK! How about? . . . The stallion loses his NFHR registration (after a
suitable grace period) if the owner refuses to file this vet certificate?

NOT A GOOD IDEA EITHER? Well, then find one that is. Doing nothing is
irresponsible.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
RECORD BOOK -  I can see the point of only American evaluated Fjords in the
American Record Book. . . . I don't agree it's in the best interest of
education, but it is logical.
However, remember that all the  horses evaluated by the Europeans are NFHR
Fjords, and their owners NFHR members.
It seems reasonable that if these horses are not included, then the
registry should think about a separate book for them, in the interest of
fairness and education.
Why not? - The entire purpose of Evaluation, whether American or European,
is EDUCATION.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
         ----- The concept of Evaluations is European ----
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The European Studbooks that have evaluated  NFHR American-bred Fjords are
our friends, our colleagues.  They are unquestionably "credible".  There's
no conflict.  We're all after the same goals ---  Breeding better Fjords.
 A Record Book containing all the data on past Euro Evals. (in English)
would be tremendously helpful.
Best Regards,  Carol Rivoire
